THE DALLES — The Riverhawks opened their Class 4A boys basketball season last week, and they won one-out-of-three nonleague games.
The Riverhawks (1-2), guided by third-year Coach Brian Stevens, competed in the Crook County Invitational Tournament Dec. 4-6 at Crook County High School in Prineville. In their 2025-2026 season opener Dec. 4, the Riverhawks lost in overtime, 80-72, to Scappoose (2-1).
“We had a good weekend of competition for The Dalles boys basketball,” said Stevens. “Reese Kinslow’s rebounding helped give us second-chance scoring opportunities that allowed us to have a chance to win against Scappoose.”
Senior Calder Morrison led the Riverhawks in scoring with 23 points, and junior Oliver Stevens had 22 points and three assists.
The Riverhawks lost Dec. 5, 79-62, to Crook County, and bounced back with a, 75-69, win on Dec. 6 over the Bend High Lava Bears (1-2).
Despite Crook County’s 6-foot-9 post Bryce Lowenbach’s 23-point, 16-rebound effort, The Dalles was within seven points at the end of the third quarter. The Riverhawks had four players foul out and the Cowboys were able to pull away and win by a 17-point margin.
Stevens led the Riverhawks in scoring with 26 points and four assists.
In the win over Bend, Goulart (30 points, 11 rebounds) scored 16 first quarter points to help give the Riverhawks the early advantage. Morrison had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists.
“Issac Pitt played well defensively to help hold Bend’s best player to 14 points,” said Coach Stevens. “We were pushing to build team chemistry and compete in every game. We did both of those things. Case came in and changed the pace of the game in our favor against Bend.”
