Congratulations to the mostly local make-up team comprised of Stuart Kawachi, Janet Kawachi, Kristin Kawachi and Jeff Hasegawa, who took third place in the Spencer Lee bowling tournament that concluded last Sunday at Park Lanes in Hillsboro. Thirty teams competed in this eight-game handicap tournament that was open to all competitors. In tournaments like this one, you don’t have to be a hot shot bowler to do it. Two teams from Hood River bowled in it. Our pin busting third place winners earned a nice big check. That’s what you can do by bowling in a league because league bowlers have automatic access to fun and challenging tournament action like the Spencer Lee!
During the holidays, the Tuesday and Wednesday bowling leagues at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes suspended so they could celebrate Christmas and New Years. Here are consolidated highlights from the past several weeks of league action:
1. Patrick Olson, 718 series (Industrial league)
2. John Helm, 717 series (Fraternal league)
3. Jeff Brittle, 683 series (Industrial league)
4. Jeremy Bloom, 681 series (Fraternal league)
5. Woody Eskildsen, 655 series (Industrial league)
Monday Night Industrial league:
Current Standings with only two weeks to go in round 2:
1. Hood River Supply , 102 points
2. Clear Cutters, 100.5 points
4. Mt. Hood BBQ, 99 points
As you can easily tell from the standings, any of these top five teams are in an excellent position to win the second round. The matches in the next two week will be decisive and here are the biggies: Mt. Hood BBQ faces Clear Cutters this week. Mt. Hood BBQ has a 77 pin handicap advantage per game. That’s going to be a challenge for Clear Cutters to overcome. Next week, Clear Cutters face The Crew and The Crew has a 138 pin handicap advantage per game. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that’s a mountain to climb for The Crew. It’s going to take some big time pin busting for Clear Cutters to win the 2nd round. Hood River Supply and Decavo have more favorable matches in the next two weeks. It’s going to be interesting to see who prevails.

Let’s GO BOWLING everyone! Real bowling is a big-time endeavor, not some couch potato video game. Scattering those ten, formidable, 3 lb. 6 oz. pins that are just standing there, waiting for you, 60’ away on a narrow 42” lane that is protected by channels on each side that will swallow a misguided sphere is pure fun! You can do it.
