Tenpin action teemed in last week’s Monday night Industrial League at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes. Three of our Team of the Week stars emerged from team matches in the Industrial, which were critical, because only one week remains in the second round.
Randy Tumlinson rolled a slick scratch 665 series that was capped by a nice 243 game and finished up his evening’s work 158 pins over his average — the top performance by all league bowlers last week. In doing so, he also keyed his team, Tinman Heating, to a 21.5-8.5 trouncing of their opponents. This is the second time this season that Randy has made the fab five.
Ken Kramer wasn’t far back, hitting the strike zone with a solid scratch 663 series that was highlighted by a fine 253 game. Ken ended up 126 pins over his average, making the Team of the Week for the first time this season. He literally threw that little slump he’s been in right out of the ball game!
In a key match, affable lefty John Miller, who is having a great season and may just be the most improved bowler in town, rattled the sticks with great aplomb, just missing a scratch 600 set by one pin. John was 113 pins over his average, sparking his team, Mid-Columbia Diesel, to a crushing 24-6 drubbing over their opponents. That effort put Mid-Columbia Diesel in second place behind ERS who have a commanding 25.5-point lead, but these two teams bowl head-to-head next week, so it’s still possible for either squad to take the second round. This is the third time John has made the team of the week this season.
Lynn Spellman and Terry Arthur round out our big five stars this week. The indomitable Mr. Spellman led his team, as he so often does, to a 22-3 shellacking of their opponents in the Wednesday night Fraternal League, mainly due to his strong scratch 708 series that was 117 pins over his average. Lynn’s 708 set was also the high scratch score at the lanes last week.
There are still four weeks to go in the second round of the Fraternal, but Lynn’s tenpin prowess clearly helped put his team in position to win as they are just 7.5 points back of the leader. Currently, it’s a four-team race at the top of the league. This is the fourth time Lynn has made the Team of the Week this season — the most by anybody in town! That’s pretty darn good in anybody’s book.
Terry Arthur had a super outing in the Tuesday Nite Mixed League, where he racked up a mighty fine scratch 607 series that was 109 pins over his average. Although there are quite a few weeks to go in the second half of this league, Terry powered his team to a 4-0 sweep of their opponents, vaulting them to second place in the current standings. This is the first time Terry has made the Team of the Week this season.
Congratulations to The Dudes, who won the first half of the Thursday County League. Bowling for the Dudes are current team members Matt Monbouquette and Jeremy Ziegler. Great bowling, everybody!
