HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley girls basketball team won one game and lost the other to start their 2025-26 season at their own Battle of the Bridge tournament.
The Eagles took care of business in their first game, 44-32, against WIAA Class 1A King’s Way Christian from Vancouver on Dec. 5 in Hood River, but a day later lost, 61-36, to Class 6A Cleveland of Portland.
King’s Way Christian got off to a hot start, leading 11-9 after the first quarter. The Eagles steadily built a lead in the middle periods to make it 39-28 after the third quarter. HRV held a 10-point lead for the majority of the fourth quarter.
Isa Rivera led the way in scoring for the Eagles with 14 points and also added eight steals, while Emily Doss grabbed 10 boards for HRV.
HRV’s second game of the tournament pitted the Eagles against the Cleveland Warriors on Dec. 6. The Eagles got going in the first quarter against the Warriors, leading 14-12, however, HRV was unable to sustain the momentum the rest of the game.
Doss’ three-point play followed by Addi Van Metre’s short jumper pushed HRV’s lead to 9-0 early. But successive Cleveland baskets off offensive rebounds, sandwiched around a Hood River turnover, seem to settle things for the Warriors.
The Eagles were hurt by turnovers and cold shooting throughout the contest, as Cleveland outscored HRV, 32-17, in the middle periods. The Warriors closed the third period on a 15-2 scoring run to take control of the game.
Doss led HRV in scoring with 10 points and she also grabbed five rebounds. Van Metre added seven points and three boards for the Eagles.
