HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley High School girls lacrosse team picked up two big home wins and a strong road victory this past week. The Eagles beat Summit, 17-4, on April 13; Beaverton, 17-4 on April 14; and Cleveland, 15-2, on April 17.
Senior Georgia Deresta led the way for the Eagles (4-3) against Beaverton (0-6) with seven goals and two assists, while sophomore Josie Faaborg added three goals and three assists. Sophomores Claire Roselle and Lily Sigl each scored twice, while senior Zella Berens and junior Annalese Rinella also found the back of the net. On the defensive end, junior Olivia Bauman led the team with three forced turnovers.
In Friday’s matchup at Cleveland (0-7), Hood River Valley played without seniors Deresta and Jennica Rigert, but the Eagles still controlled the game behind a spread-out scoring attack. Faaborg finished with four goals and one assist, senior Izzy McCormack added three goals and one assist, and Sigl and Rinella each had two goals and two assists. Sophomore Lyla Mall had a goal and three assists, Berens added a goal and two assists, and freshmen Monroe Sanchez and Wren Eaton each scored once. Senior Rowan McKenna forced five turnovers, and senior Melina Toledo made five saves in the first half.
Hood River Valley’s defense was especially dominant after halftime, holding Cleveland without a shot on goal in the second half. Hood River Valley scored 49 total goals across the three games while allowing just 10 from their opponents.
Next up, the Eagles will travel to Camas (Wash.) for a game at 6:45 p.m. on April 22 and then they’ll return home for a game against Lincoln at 5:45 p.m. on April 24 in Hood River to finish the week.
