DUFUR — The OSAA Class 1A eight-man football Special District 3 champion Dufur High Rangers (10-1) had 10 players selected for all league awards as voted on by coaches.
The top-ranked Rangers, guided by longtime (40 years) Coach Jack Henderson, advanced to the Nov. 22 state semifinals, which resulted in season-ending, 44-8, loss to the No. 4-ranked Crosspoint Christian High Warriors (9-3) at Summit High School in Bend. Henderson was the SD3 co-coach of the year along with Dustan Adams of the Imbler High Panthers (7-4).
The highlights included a first team/player-of-the-year award (offense) for Dufur junior quarterback Gavin Anderson, who was also selected for a first team defensive line award.
Dufur seniors Charles Campo (linebacker) and Austin Kuehnl (offensive line/defensive line) capped their Ranger football careers by earning first team all-league awards. Other Dufur first team award recipients included Chase Peterson (receiver/defensive line), Ian Pechanec (receiver/linebacker), Daylen Hammitt (offensive line/linebacker), Ever Corbett (offensive line), Chase Richards (defensive back/kick returner) and Choice Richards (defensive back).
Choice Richards, a freshman, also won an honorable mention award (running back). Chase Richards, a sophomore, earned an honorable mention award (placekicker) and junior Marcel Sandoval won a first team award (placekicker).
