Dubbed the longest-running amateur kiteboarding contest in the country, the 13th-annual Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest is set for July 27-28 at the Stevenson Marina. The amateur division will run July 27 and the pro division July 28, with start times depending on wind conditions. Backup days for no wind are July 26 and Aug. 3-4.
The pro contest includes a $2,000 cash purse for men’s and women’s division competitors.
Also part of the action this year is an Aug. 3 blowout race from Stevenson to Hood River. The event will be run as a pro-am, which will pair teams of pro kiteboarders with amateurs for the 16-mile downwind run to the Hood River sandbar. A riders meeting for the blowout is 11 a.m. that morning with a 1 p.m. first-possible-start.
Registration for the three events can be done in advance of each: 8 a.m. July 27, 10 a.m. July 28 and, for the blowout, either of the previous two or 10 a.m. Aug. 3.
