The South Wasco County High Redsides had a great start to the Class 1A boys basketball season, recording blowout victories in back-to-back non-league road games Friday and Saturday.
After light winds postponed the Gorge Blowout two weekends ago during the Bridge of the Gods Kitefest, the 17-mile downwinder from Stevenson to Hood River went off Saturday afternoon.
Rescheduled from two weeks ago due to lack of wind, the Bridge of the Gods Kitefest Blowout race from Stevenson to Hood River will, wind willing, take place Saturday (backup wind day Sunday).
Fueled by steady thermal winds and sizzling summer temps, the 14th annual Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest brought hundreds of kiteboarders and spectators to the Stevenson waterfront over the weekend for two days of friendly but fierce freestyle competition.
The 2014 Bridge of the Gods Kitefest in Stevenson is set for next weekend, with the pro contest July 25, the amateur event July 26 and the Blow-out July 27. In its 14th year, the event is touted as the longest-running amateur kiteboarding competition in the country, and has successfully served as a platform for many young men and women aspiring to climb the ranks of the sport from amateur to professional.
Dubbed the longest-running amateur kiteboarding contest in the country, the 13th-annual Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest is set for July 27-28 at the Stevenson Marina. The amateur division will run July 27 and the pro division July 28, with start times depending on wind conditions. Backup days for no wind are July 26 and Aug. 3-4.
