The Dufur High Rangers had a rough start to their Class 1A football season opener as they lost 66-6 to the St. Paul High Buckaroos Sept. 1 in the 20th Annual Eight-Man Classic at Dufur High School.
The Special District 7 champion Dufur/South Wasco baseball team is certainly going to look much different next year, and not just because an talented Ranger squad lost six graduated seniors.
Appearing in the semifinals for the first time since 2017, the Dufur/South Wasco County High Rangers had an excellent opportunity to reach the OSAA Class 2A/1A baseball state championship game for the first time ever.
The Special District 7 Champion and No. 4-ranked Rangers (24-3) led 3-2 over the Special District 4 Champion No. 1 ranked Umpqua Valley Christian High Monarchs (25-5) in the ninth inning. The Rangers were hoping to extend the contest into the 10th to give themselves a chance to win.
With the largest crowd of the season attending their final home game, the Dufur/South Wasco County High Rangers had an impressive performance in a 10-0 win over the No. 12 ranked Neah-Kah-Nie High Pirates (18-7) in the OSAA Class 2A/1A baseball state quarterfinals May 27 at Dufur City Park.
The No. 4-ranked Dufur/South Wasco County High Rangers remained undefeated in Class 2A/1A Special District 7 baseball, sweeping No. 12-ranked Heppner (7-4 SD7, 8-8 overall), 5-0 and 11-7, on April 29 at Dufur High School.
The No. 5-ranked Dufur/South Wasco County High Rangers baseball team displayed its highly potent offense (12.6 runs per game average) while scoring a total of 34 runs in winning a doubleheader over the Stanfield/Echo High Tigers April 9 at Stanfield High School.
Dufur High’s run in the Class 1A Big Sky League girls basketball district playoffs last week was a short one, as the Rangers lost, 63-35, to eventual district champion, Echo High, on Feb. 15.
