Scissor attack — Oct. 9, state troopers responded to a residence as backup for Wasco County deputies and tried to negotiate with a suspect armed with “a large pair of scissors.” The suspect tried to attack the trooper, who escaped. Another officer tazed and arrested the suspect.
Two injury crashes — Oct. 7, troopers helped Hood River police with a head-on collision. A young child was found in a carseat with injuries. HRPD arrested the driver on DUII and other charges. Oct. 8, a single vehicle crashed on US-97 in Wasco County after the driver fell asleep, crossed a barbed-wire fence and 75 feet of rocky field. The driver taken to a local hospital.
A non-injury crash — A driver on SR 35 hit a deer, according to state police. Also, Wasco County logged three crashes and The Dalles police logged six crashes Hood River police got one crash report.
Two fake licenses — Trooper charged a driver with reckless driving and reckless endangerment of three juvenile passengers, as it sped 113 mph on US-197. The 18-year-old driver had two fictitious driver’s licenses.
Wrong buck — A fish and wildlife trooper charged a Gilliam County hunter with unlawful take of a buck in the wrong unit Oct. 5. Another responded to a report of a gunshot near Swyer’s Drive and found someone had shot and killed a deer on private land. Both deer were seized.
Five DUII arrests — State troopers, who responded with Sherman deputies to an iPhone crash alert near the Deschutes River Access road, arrested the driver for arrested on DUII and driving suspended charges Oct. 4. The same day, troopers stopped a Subaru after a driving complaint on I-84 Oct. 4 and arrested the driver on DUII and reckless driving. More charges were referred to the District Attorney after the resisting driver removed a hand from the handcuffs to damage the patrol vehicle, urinated there, and ordered a dog to pee as well. Later that day, another driver was arrested on I-84 with a blood alcohol level of 0.27%.
On Oct. 8, an adult male was arrested for DUII and possession of methamphetamine, and another driver on I-84 was arrested for DUII, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine. Meanwhile, The Dalles logged two DUIIs. Hood River police arrested two for DUII; one California resident had a blood alcohol level double the legal limit.
Charges — Oct. 4-10, state police charged people with driving suspended (two), drug violation (two), DUII (five), firearms (one), hunting violation (two), menacing (one), reckless driving (three), reckless endangering (one), warrant (two). Sept. 28-Oct. 4, Hood River charged people with driving suspended or revoked (two), disorderly conduct (one), DUII (two), elude (one), trespass (one), warrant (four). Other agencies don’t release arrests, but Wasco County and The Dalles logged seven warrant incidents.
Critters — Wasco County logged three dogs and another animal. The Dalles added nine dogs and two other animals.
Thefts — Wasco County logged two thefts on Elrod Avenue, Lake Way. The Dalles added 10, including a stolen vehicle on Laughlin, ID theft and two fraud allegations. Hood River reported three thefts and two frauds: bike, shoplifting at Walmart, ID theft. A resident reported losing $60,000 to an online romance fraud; another reported rental fraud. Stolen vehicle from The Dalles recovered.
Stats — Wasco County made one log of domestic violence. The Dalles made six, and logged sex crimes and two assaults. Hood River, Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, reported unlawful dissemination of an intimate image. Wasco also logged three mental health calls and two suicidal incidents. The Dalles had one mental health call.
Drugs — The Dalles logged three drug-related incidents on W. Seventh, Webber and E. 10th.
Library arrest — Hood River officers responded to a disturbance at the library and arrested a transient person on disorderly conduct charges and a warrant from Clackamas County.
