HOOD RIVER — Interested in teaching students about the history of the Gorge?
The History Museum of Hood River County has openings for tour guides, or docents. These volunteers take small groups of students through the museum for scheduled field trips. Training is provided; those interested in volunteering are also invited to attend a tour to see guides in action.
“Interacting with students on school tours of the museum is fun and always interesting,” said volunteer Sharon Beardsley. “Many visitors ask thoughtful questions and often share their views of life in our valley. Docents do not use memorized scripts; we tailor our comments to educational levels and interests of our visitors. We always enjoy these encounters with them!”
