Notable incidents

Nine theft reports. Theft from Hood River Valley High School, theft from vehicle at Tamanawas Falls, theft of airpods from a person at Mt. Hood Meadows, theft from Chamberlin Road location, stolen vehicle from Cascade Locks. In one incident, a person from New Jersey scammed a resident out of $3,500, they reported Feb. 2.

Four non-injury crash reports. In one incident, a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Indian Creek Road and Belmont Drive Feb. 18. In another, a vehicle rolled over at milepost 44 on I-84.

Three hit-and-run reports. One incident was reported near Highway 281 and the Lost Lake intersection, Feb. 10.

Deputies assisted Wasco County with a snowmobile crash that resulted in the death of the driver near Government Camp on Feb. 4.

Deputies cited an individual for minor in possession of alcohol on Indian Creek Road. Other locations included Mt. Hood Meadows.

In separate incidents, two different people were placed on peace officer mental holds.

One injury vehicle crash. Deputies responded to a crash near Clear Creek and Culbertson roads Feb. 10.

A deputy was dispatched to a person that drove off from fueling with the nozzel still attached Feb. 18.

A stolen silver Acura with an Oregon plate was located on Post Canyon Road near Seven Streams Staging area, and recovered.

Deputies took a report of computer crime on Eastside Road on Feb. 28.

Officers responded to an unattended death.

A missing person report was taken Feb. 29.

Hood River Police, Feb. 25 - March 2

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Assault (two), criminal mischief (one), DUII (one), driving while suspended (one), harassment (two), kidnapping (one), resisting arrest (one), restraining order violation (one), theft (four), warrant (three).

Notable incidents

Seven theft reports. Shoplifting (five incidents), garbage cans, and a laptop and clothing from a hotel room. In one of the shoplifting incidents, officers were advised a person was caught stealing, asked to pay, and then assaulted an employee. After an investigation, the transient person was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charges of theft and harassment.

One DUII arrest. Officers arrested a non-resident person on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Officers arrested and lodged a transient person at NORCOR on charges of attempted assault IV, criminal mischief II, resisting arrest and assaulting a public safety officer.

Three motor vehicle crashes. In one incident, a vehicle backed into a pedestrian in a parking lot, causing injury. Other locations included near the intersection of Cascade and Mt. Adams.

A burglary was reported at The Spit on Feb. 26.

Two hit-and-run reports. In one incident, a vehicle drove over a fire hydrant on Oak near Tenth Street. The other took place in a Safeway parking lot.

The Dalles Police, March 1 - 8

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Criminal trespass (two), escape (one), probation violation (one), resisting arrest (one), restraining order violation (one), warrant (four).

Notable incidents

Forty-five mental health calls.

Fourteen animal calls. Dogs at large, abandoned puppies, dog welfare check, ongoing issue with dog chasing people in the street.

Six theft reports. Medication, plate off Jeep Rubicon, packaged video game from mailbox, and items from a vehicle including insurance, registration, keys to other equipment and assorted items. In another incident, a silver Toyota hatchback pulled into a lot on Ninth Street and filled a dumpster with garbage.

A case number was taken for a disturbance at Imagination Garden. Medics were dispatched and two people taken into custody after a physical altercation took place. A reporting party stated they asked a couple to put their dog on leash, and the argument became physical.

One hit and run report. A reporting party stated a Chevrolet pickup reversed into their GMC Sierra on Lone Pine Drive, then took off without explanation.

Two one fraud reports. Verizon account opened in reporting party’s name.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots fired on the 400 block of Court Street on March 6. The incident was reported at 4:53 a.m. when a 911-caller stated that a person driving by was shooting at them. An officer reported having someone at gunpoint a few minutes later. One person was detained, arrested and lodged at NORCOR for DUII — alcohol, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon. One vehicle was towed.

The Dalles Police responded to a report by parole and probation. An officer deployed a taser on the person in question, who was detained for escaping and resisting.

Oregon State Police, March 1 - 8

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (five), failing to carry or present operator’s license (one), recklessly endangering another person (one), reckless driving (one), trespass (one), violating a restraining order (one).

Notable incidents

One DUII arrest. A trooper stopped a vehicle on I-84 for a traffic violation. The driver was transported and lodged at NORCOR on charges of violating a restraining order, DUII, and failing to carry or present an operator’s license. The passenger was able to drive the vehicle from the scene.

OSP arrested a person for seven counts recklessly endangering another person, DUII — intoxicants and reckless driving after a crash on I-84 on March 7. OSP responded to the crash at milepost 69 eastbound in Wasco County. Investigation determined the driver of a maroon Nissan Altima was eastbound passing other vehicles when it lost control, struck a red F150, and then struck the guardrail. The driver of the Altima, a The Dalles resident who was the only injured party, was arrested and lodged at NORCOR for the above charges. The Altima was towed.

Three non-injury vehicle crashes. In one incident the driver of a red pickup was towing a flat-bed trailer, which had two campers secured to the trailer. A gust of wind flipped the trailer over, causing the two campers to come to rest on the right shoulder. The driver was able to safely pull over to the shoulder with the trailer overturned. The trailer was towed and the two campers moved off the road by the towing company, for later retrieval. In another incident on March 4, OSP responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 26, near milepost 52, in Wheeler County. A vehicle was found off the eastbound shoulder, with no people around. A note in the vehicle provided contact information. Police investigation determined the driver was eastbound when they lost control during winter driving conditions and slid off the highway, striking the guardrail and a highway sign. Said winter conditions made it too difficult to recover the vehicle, which was left at the scene.
