Hood River Police, June 9 - 15
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Assault (one), disorderly conduct (one), DUII (three), felon in possession of weapon (one), harassment (two), possession of methamphetamine (one), reckless driving (one), theft (three), trespass (one), warrant (two).
Notable incidents
One vehicle crash. A two-car crash occurred at Cascade and Rand June 9.
Two people were arrested for felon in possession of a restricted weapon, in separate incidents. On June 9, a Hood River resident was arrested on the charges of DUII - controlled substance, felon in possession of a weapon restricted weapon and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. They acknowledge the recent use of methamphetamine and fentanyl. In another incident, a resident person was arrested on the charges of outstanding warrants, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting arrest.
Three DUII arrests. In one incident, a Vancouver, Wash., resident was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on the charge of DUII - alcohol and reckless driving. A breath test showed a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.
Three theft reports. Theft from Walmart, shoplifting (two incidents).
The Dalles Police, June 14 - 21
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Disorderly conduct (one), trespass (one), warrant (six).
Notable incidents
A burglary was reported on Washington Street June 14. A bicycle was taken and recovered from near the Post Office. One person was arrested for burglary, criminal mischief and theft II in regards to the incident.
Twenty-four animal calls. Dogs at large, civil issue over disposition of dog, barking dogs, missing cat and dogs, welfare checks on dogs, dog fight, aggressive dogs. In one incident, a stray cat ran into a Seventh Street house, and the resident noticed it had a string tied around its testicles. A citizen took it to the vet, who later requested follow-up. In another incident, a small Yorkie briefly escaped from a grooming salon and made off down Second Street before being recaptured.
Three fraud reports. In one incident, a reporting party lost $1,000 to a scam, which is under investigation. Another incident involved fraudulent debit card charges. In another, a person lost $5,000 to ID theft.
Ten mental health calls.
Six theft reports. Unspecified (three incidents), firearm, vehicle from Old Dufur Road reported June 15, cash from ATM.
A locally-stolen vehicle was recovered in Portland on June 16.
Officers located an unresponsive person on Second Street and gave a dose of narcan June 16. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue responded and transported the person to an area hospital.
A vandalism report. Windows of a vehicle, parked on Seventh, smashed during the night.
A hit-and-run report. A worker at a Crates Way business advised a construction company’s fence, on the same road, had been smashed with heavy equipment.
A houseless person’s camp was set on fire June 18. The camp was built of cardboard behind a business on Mt. Hood Street. The fire also damaged an electrical box and ice-cube machine.
One vehicle crash report. Two vehicles collided on River Trail Way and River Road, resulting in a neck injury on June 18. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue responded. One driver got three citations.
A person was arrested for disorderly conduct and trespass after throwing a rock at someone who yelled at them for going through trash on Sixth Street June 19.
Six warrant arrests. In one incident, a person called in for walking around a Sixth-Street location with power tools still that were still in their boxes, allegedly offering to sell them for $5-$10 dollars. They were contacted and ultimately arrested on a misdemeanor warrant out of Wasco County.
A bag of suspected methamphetamine was seized after being found by a reporting party on Sixth Street.
Wasco County Sheriff, June 14 - 21
Notable incidents
Deputies stopped 24 vehicles.
Three dogs and one unspecified animal logged.
One mental health call.
A drug incident was logged from Webber Street on June 15.
In two incidents, a potential shot fired was logged from Rock Creek Road.
Two assaults. One was logged from Country Way, the other from Highway 216.
Three stolen vehicles were logged, one from Chenowith Creek Road on June 15, one from Harpham Flat on June 16 and one from Huskey Road on June 17.
A burglary was logged from W. 10th on June 15.
A DUII was logged from Clear Lake on June 16.
A hit and run was logged from Valley Drive on June 16.
A fire was logged on Olney Road June 16.
A warrant incident was logged from E. Seventh on June 17.
A theft was logged from Washington Street June 17.
A vehicle crash was logged from Dry Hollow Lane June 20.
Oregon State Police, June 14 - 21
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (three), reckless driving (one), unlawful take of deer (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
A Post Canyon Drive, Hood River resident reported accidentally killing a buck with a pellet rifle on June 14. The person intended to scare the deer away, but killed it after shooting it multiple times. They received a citation for unlawful take of buck deer, the pellet rifle was seized, and the buck salvaged.
Two injury crashes. In one incident, a trooper responded to a rollover crash on US-97 involving a 28-foot U-Haul trailer towing a Nissan Rogue. The vehicle was northbound near milepost 34 when a gust of wind caught it and caused it to swerve onto the soft dirt shoulder. When the driver tried to get back on the road, they lost control and rolled, blocking both lanes completely for several hours. The vehicles were towed and the driver was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. In another incident, a commercial vehicle and a white SUV were eastbound on I-85, taking a blind curve near milepost 71, when traffic ahead was nearly stopped. The commercial vehicle rear-ended the SUV and both pulled to the shoulder, still drivable. The SUV’s driver had a complaint of worsening pain.
Five non-injury crashes. In one incident, OSP responded to a single-vehicle crash on the I-85 Koberg Beach on-ramp. The driver had a medical emergency while driving, but was uninjured in the crash, and was given a ride to Hood River while the vehicle was towed. In another, a white Honda Odyssey crashed into the I-84 overpass at milepost 62 westbound, after trying to avoid something in the road. In another, a log truck rolled backwards at a stop sign in Biggs and struck the front of a van. A trooper was present, but not in position to stop the truck; they gave the information to Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office and a deputy stopped the truck. The trooper photographed the damaged van and helped both parties in exchange information. In another incident, a white Subaru Outback rear-ended a white Hyundai Santa Fe on I-84 near milepost 44 eastbound.
Three DUII arrests. In one incident, a trooper stopped a driver for multiple traffic violations on Highway 30 and Rowena Road. After an investigation, the driver was cited and released for DUII. A vehicle search found controlled substances and tinfoil with burnt residue.
A vehicle caught fire on Highway 97, near milepost 72 southbound, on June 17. Cause of the fire is unknown. The two occupants did not report injuries, and were given a ride to Madras. Investigation is ongoing.
