Here are last week’s league bowling pin busters at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes:
Monday Night Industrial league:
We’ve just completed the second week in round three of the Industrial. So, it’s really too early to put much emphasis on who is leading the round. Essentially all 11 teams in the league are still in. Here are the outcomes of key matches last week:
Albert Frelix was “the man” in the Industrial last week. Bowling for Randy’s Painting, he led all scoring with a cool 669 series, capped by a lofty 265 game. Good as that is, it wasn’t enough. Orchard Lanes beat Randy’s Painting 17-8 in their match. All-star Nancy Asai keyed Orchard Lanes big win with a timely 639 series that included three consistent 200 games.
The Dalles’ tall drink of water, lanky Matt Hodges, found these lanes to his liking last week. Matt’s down-and-in game was spot on as he pummeled the pins to the tune of a 233 game and 648 series. That effort powered his team, The Crew —which was formerly just called Team 2 — to a severe 23-2 beating of the top team in the league, Pat’s Pro Shop.
Kevin Harris found the range for The Rollers just like old times, with a 623 series that he put together with mighty fine 235 and 227 games. The Rollers spanked 3 Fingers Deep 22.5 to 2.5.
And, finally, OL’7-10 was mercilessly walloped by past champs, MTS, 24 to 1.
Tuesday Nite Mixed League:
We’re getting down to the nitty-gritty in the Mixed with just three weeks to go in the second half of the league. CPR (Sandy Holmes, Coral Worth, Dan Nakamura and Steve Silva) got beat by Taco Tuesday 3-1 last week, so they barely hung onto first place with 20 wins. The first-half winner, the dangerous Mad Skilz foursome, moved into second with 19 wins after beating Team Kawachi 3-1. Mad Skilz’s smooth staccato-stepping 220-average all-star Jeremy Bloom keyed the win, tossing a glitzy 707 series that was highlighted by multiple strike filled 248 and 245 games. In third place, two games back, is Who Gives a Split.

Orchard Lanes proprietor Patrick Olson fired the top scores of the week, a 279 game and 724 series, as he led his Orchard Lanes team to a 4-0 sweep of Team Nishi.
And Ken Espersen’s easygoing, smooth-as-silk down and in style found the 1-3 pocket all night long, notching a nifty 665 series that powered his Take Ten crew to a 4-0 blanking of Split Faced.
Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies league:
Not much changed in the senior league. Skamaniacs (Karen Baumsteiger, Janet Harrington and Dave Baumsteiger) and We Tried (Barb Johnson Anne Brady, and Neil Johnson) are still tied for first place with 18 wins.
Top scores in the senior league last week included:
Rod Pratt scored fine, 221 and 217 games in a classy 627 series for Gutter Girls in a losing cause while Cousins beat the Gutter Girls 3-1; Ken Kramer pitched a solid 219 game, and his Rice Krispies teammate Lynn Spellman contributed a 209 as they split 2-2 with Jesse’s Team.
Wednesday night Fraternal league:
The hotshot, fast-paced and high-scoring Fraternal league is also only a couple weeks into its third round.
The top four teams racked up big point numbers last week. First-place Mt. Hood BBQ (41 points) got a 24-1 point win; second-place Tres Psicos (36 points) beat MD’s 23-2; third-place Red Rockets (33.5 points) waxed the Bowling Stones 21.5-3.5; and fourth-place Electronics Assemblers (33 points) topped Orchard Lanes 20-5.
Here are the match stars in the Fraternal league last week:
John Riggleman shot an eleven-strike 279 game and sharp 688 series for his Mt. Hood BBQ team; AJ Perdue fired an unflappable 661 series and John Helm tossed a neat 242 for their Ten in the Pit crew, but still lost 17-8 to rivals Get Hu’sum BBQ, mainly because Rob Miller and speedy Stan Pratnicki both logged big 255 games to earn the win for Get Hu’sum; Orchard Lanes staffer Josh Worth trundled a ho-hum (for him!) 247 game against powerhouse Bloom Auto Body, but it wasn’t enough as the tough Bloomers prevailed 13-12; and Skip Whitley led Tres Piscos to their 23-2 drubbing of the MD’s with a bold 244 game.
Thursday afternoon County league:
Last week The Munsons (Dane Backman, Tommy Hood and Jay Slack) extended their first-place lead in the County league with 19 wins. The Lady Ballers fell farther back in second, with 15 wins. There’s still five weeks to go in the second half.
There was some darn good bowling in the County league last week; here are the big shooters:
For the second week in a row, BS-ers’ Victor Flores led all scoring in the County league with excellent 211 and 202 games. Plus he posted his second 600 series in a row, a nice 603. Victor was the straw that stirred the drink as he motivated his BS-ers squad to a 3-1 win against Over the Line.
All-star Melissa Werkheiser showed the sticks that she is the boss, rolling a beautiful 222 game and 601 series for Pins in Low Places. Plus her teammate, Gordon Pillon, also notched a 201 game. Those are mighty fine scores, but they weren’t good enough to beat Gutter Girls, who came away with a 3-1 win.
How about golfer extraordinaire Yoyo Cervantes? He’s found another swing, called a bowling arm swing, and he excelled at it. He rolled super 221 and 206 games last week for his Incredibowls trio, who beat Holy Rollers 3-1. Yoyo is rapidly gaining another reputation as a bowler extraordinaire!
Jay Slack carried the ball for the Munsons last week, posting a sharp 205 game that was enough to top the Lady Ballers 3-1.
And Jason Borton joined the hit parade with a skilled 201 game, even though his Save the Pins gang lost 3-1 to Unbowlievables.
