HOOD RIVER — Join local author Gabriel Urza in celebration of his gripping new novel, “Silver State.” Urza will stop by the Hood River Library on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. for an in-depth conversation with award-winning writer Sierra Crane Murdoch.
“Co-sponsored by Waucoma Bookstore and the Hood River County Library, this event brings together two acclaimed writers exploring justice, truth, and the human cost of systemic failure through both fiction and nonfiction,” said a press release.
Initially from Reno, Nevada, Urza is now a Hood River-based writer, attorney and professor. He teaches fiction in the MFA program at Portland State University. The author’s prominent works include the novel “All That Followed” and the story collection “The White Death: An Illusion.”
His latest release, “Silver State,” is a “haunting and thought-provoking legal thriller that redefines the genre,” said a press release. Its events concern a public defender who receives a letter from a client on death row, forcing him to re-examine his role in a lingering murder case that has chewed at him for years.
A Pulitzer Prize finalist and Oregon Book Award winner, Murdoch is a prominent journalist and author whose reporting has appeared in Harper’s, This American Life, The Atlantic, and The New Yorker. Her novel “Yellow Bird” traces the true story of a woman’s quest for justice on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.
Books will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of Waucoma Bookstore. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit waucomabookstore.com or call 541-386-5353.
