Here’s some exciting news about a Glenwood High School sophomore. Kerryna Thompson was chosen as a delegate for The National Congress of American Indians Youth Commission in Washington, D.C., representing the Yakama Indian Nation. This program, for Native American and Alaska Native Youth ages 16-23, is focused on developing leadership skills and fostering a unified voice for youth. We are very happy and proud that Kerryna was chosen for this conference and was able to experience this amazing weeklong opportunity in our nation’s capital.

I was unable to attend the following meeting, so Glenwood Grange President Linda Williams provided a recap that I’d like to share with readers. Glenwood Grange #94 met on Sunday, Feb. 22, welcoming special guests from the Washington State Grange. In attendance were Washington State Officer Tom Cullen, State Steward, and Lucille Bevis, former Washington State Deputy Director of Klickitat County. The meeting featured an informative presentation on the Constitution and Bylaws of both the Washington State Grange and the National Grange. Glenwood Grange President Linda Williams also shared a brief history of the local Grange, originally written in 1988 by Juanita Rolph. The historical account was both humorous and insightful, offering members a meaningful look at the organization’s past.
A special highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a 50-year membership certificate to Larry Williams. The certificate was awarded by State Steward Tom Cullen in recognition of Larry’s long-standing dedication and service to the Grange. Following the meeting, members and guests enjoyed food and fellowship together.

Here’s a date that is more than two months into the future, but you might want to mark your calendar. A service for Larry Babcock will take place at the Mt. Adams Cemetery in Glenwood on May 9 at 1:00 p.m.

A brother and sister team here in Glenwood are outstanding basketball players and it sure showed this season. Wyatt Patterson, a Glenwood High School sophomore on the Klickitat/Glenwood (Klickwood) boys’ team, was a key player for Klickwood all season long. Wyatt’s sister Emma, a senior at Trout Lake High School, has wowed the crowds all season long with her high-scoring games, incredible three-point shots, and all-around team leadership. Both Emma and Wyatt have been selected to compete in the 4th Annual High School Indigenous All-Star Games on March 14 and 15. The games will take place in the Muckleshoot Community Center and they will both play on East All Star stage. This is a great honor and a wonderful experience for them both.
We had to wait until the OSAA 1A District Tournaments were completed last weekend to know how things would shake out for our Klickwood team. Well, Klickwood’s basketball season hadn’t quite come to an end. They played Crosspoint Christian in the first round of the OSAA State Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 24 in Klamath Falls, OR. The final result wasn’t what we hoped for. Klickwood played hard and well but just couldn’t pull off the win, so their season has ended. But they made it to State! That’s something to really be proud of.
They made it to post-season play because of a strong overall team, including Anthony Avila, Wyatt Patterson, Xavier Cloud, Owen and Shane Spino, Talon Cabral, Ciaran McCabe, and so many others. I also want to add how proud we all are of Glenwood’s Hunter Walker, who played hard and well on the Klickwood Junior Varsity until a knee injury ended his season early. Hunter still turned out to support his team in any way to the very end of their season, despite not being able to suit up and be out on the court. Owen and Shane were named to the Big Sky League All Opponent team at the District Tournament in The Dalles before they headed to that first round of State. Way to go, Klickwood.
Wyatt’s sister Emma and her Trout Lake Mustangs team placed 2nd in the Big Sky League District Championship game. What a heartbreaker that game was, with Trout Lake losing to Dufur by just one point. Emma received the honor of being selected for the Big Sky All League First Team. Emma and her team also advanced to the State Tournament First Round, where they played Powers on Wednesday, Feb. 25. This news had to be submitted before that game was played. We are very proud of both the Klickwood boys and Trout Lake girls for their outstanding seasons.
