More than three years after beginning the planning process, Wendy B. Willow, certified public accountant, is excited to see her new 1,400-square-foot office space rising to the east of the dilapidated structure that has been home since 1999.
Willow and her husband, Kevin McNevin, have shared space on the 2-plus acres for years. McNevin owns Shamrock Landscape Service, which provides landscape and irrigation planning and design, plus contract installation.
Willow says she had no idea how complex and time-consuming the development process would be. The new building is under construction at 3235 W. Cascade Ave., across from the Les Schwab Tire Center.
Willow’s business now employs three people. She says the new building can support six. She’s hoping to add another CPA to support the mix of services the business provides: tax preparation, payroll, bookkeeping, succession planning and small business financial consulting.
Willow, who worked previously as the chief financial officer for Sprint’s Gorge operations, has been a CPA since 1985. She says she loves helping small businesses, after a childhood spent watching her parents run small businesses in Wisconsin.
Once finished, the project will feature a two-lane access road (required for fire engines) and 14 parking spaces for Willow’s and McNevin’s employees and clients.
“People keep asking if we’re still in business,” she says. “The familiar business sign out near Cascade has been down since the start of work on the realignment of Country Club Road (to the west). It stayed down while work continued on our property. It’s only temporary.”
