Warming Shelter opens

The Hood River Warming Shelter is open, at Mid-Columbia Center for Living, on Woods Court on the Heights. From 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly, homeless people can find a warm place to sleep, bedding, meals, and connection to community resources, all at no charge. On Nov. 13, volunteers Andy Wade and Rev. Anna Carmichael bring in supplies, including cots and bags of clean sleeping bags, foreground. Because of the snowstorm and cold weather, Carmichael and Wade organized the early opening of the shelter; it had scheduled to start Nov. 16. The service is offered nightly at rotating locations, with Riverside Community Church the host Nov. 16-24, when it will move to Immanuel Lutheran Church. If you are interested in taking the training to serve as a volunteer, attend the session on Nov. 25, 7-9 p.m. at St. Mark’s
