HOOD RIVER — From jazz, to old standards and to fresh new work, this year’s Advent Concert Series at Riverside Community Church is a Christmas stocking of delights.
The free concerts, on Fridays at noon during Advent, are a 50-year tradition at Riverside.
On Friday, Dec. 1, come hear the Hood River Valley High School Choir, directed by Dan Kenealy.
Jazz guitarist Charles Crosman plays on Friday, Dec. 8. This classically trained guitarist has been playing the Gorge since 1990. He’ll be performing classic Christmas songs with his smooth jazz guitar style.
Tim Mayer & Friends take the stage on Friday, Dec. 15. The group performs an eclectic mix of holiday standards and originals. This year, Tim will be joined by Dave Captein, bass, Mike Grodner, drums, Dave Henehan, guitar, and Andrea Montera, vocals.
For the final concert on Friday, Dec. 22, it’s the Riverside Community Church Chancel Choir, directed by Diana Beterbide, along with Kristen Warnock & Friends. There will be a Sing-A-Long, too.
The advent concert series is funded by the Walton Music Trust. The trust was established in 1986 by Betty and Maurice S. Walton for the purpose of promoting the use of music for religious purposes. The current trustees, Leonard and Janet Wood, welcome all to the concerts.
All concerts are at noon in the Riverside sanctuary, 317 State St. While the concerts are free, attendees can make a gift for future concerts.
