Silky smooth Michael Allen was in the zone in last week’s Fraternal league. He scattered the sticks to the tune of a mighty fine 679 series, which was 148 pins over his average. Allen’s easy style is yet another way to make those 3lb-6oz pins dance. He rolls a nice, controllable hook, right in the track area around the second arrow to make the ball do most of the work. This outstanding performance makes him the latest Bowler of the Week and lands him on the Team of the Week at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes.
Senior star Gordon Sim just missed making the team of the week with a solid 674 series that he fired in the Wednesday afternoon Colts & Fillies league. He got off to a bit of a slow start in the session but really found the range in his second game, which he opened with ten straight strikes. That eleventh one just missed, leaving one pin standing for a great 289 game. With this outing, Sim raised his lofty average to 210 pins per game. Gordon is in the top five averages in the city, which is very impressive indeed.
The highlight event of the season is just around the corner. Everybody get ready for the 61st-annual Hood River City Championship tournament Dec. 8-16. This great event is for our local league bowlers and consists of team, doubles, singles and all events. It’s a handicap format so anybody can win.
