RAJNEESHPURAM, Ore., (UPI) — This city run by followers of Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh has decided to bring people arrested inside the city limits of Rajneeshpuram for misdemeanor crimes before a muncipal court in the city.
Also brought before the court operated by Municipal Judge Prem Homa will be people who are charged with committing minor infractions. Her court also will have jurisdiction over all city ordinances.
Wasco County District Attorney Bernard Smith said city officials “didn’t consult with meat all” in setting up the municipal court to take over functions in Rajneeshpuram previously handled by the district court in The Dalles.
City Attorney Prem Sangeet said the first case brought to the municipal court was a careless driving charge involving a person who is not a Rajneeshee. The city official said the case was continued from last week until this week. — The Dalles Daily Chronicle, June 20, 1984
