A Kidz Dental Zone, located at 419 State Street, is holding a community-wide canned food drive to benefit FISH Food Bank.
Bring in five cans of food this November and be entered into a raffle for a turkey; in December, be entered into a raffle for a ham. The drive will go through Dec. 19.
Operation Christmas Child boxes are now being accepted at Immanuel Lutheran Church on the following days: Nov. 17-21, 12-1 p.m.; Nov. 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Nov. 23, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Nov. 24, 9-10 a.m.
Operation Christmas Child collects shoeboxes — either supplied by OCC, or one that is a standard size — that are filled with items such as school supplies, toys, personal hygiene and sometimes even clothing for a boy or a girl, ages 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.
OCC recipients are often living in extreme poverty or war-torn areas and suffering from conditions ranging from HIV/AIDS to malnutrition. Often, they’ve been displaced due to natural disasters, living in orphanages or on the streets. Just as often, the shoebox is the first gift they’ve ever received.

The scouts of Troop 282 have placed barrels at various businesses to collect new toys and non-perishable food items for the Hood River County Christmas Project. Barrels can be found at the following locations through Dec. 15:
Alder Creek Kayak and SUP, Columbia State Bank, Hood River News, Melika, Print It/Sign Media, Washington Federal Savings, CenterPointe Community Bank, Curves, Hood River Sports Club, Naked Winery, Rosauers, Westside School, The Children’s Play Place, Hood River Middle School, Horizon Christian School, Orchard Lanes Bowling, Walmart and Wy’east Middle School.
