Free summer meals — Hood River County School District (HRCSD) is offering free summer meals and snacks to all children and teens aged 1-18 Monday through Friday, from June 22 through Aug. 21. The program is open to all families without the need for paperwork, income verification, or regard to immigration status. To receive a meal, children can simply drop in during a site’s designated mealtimes. Many programs also offer fun activities to keep kids active and engaged. Fair time — The Hood River County Fair will return July 22-25 at the Hood River County Fairgrounds, bringing together community members from across the county to celebrate the hard work, accomplishments, and talents of local 4-H and FFA youth. More information will be featured in upcoming editions.
Indian Creek Poetry Walk — features nature-themed poems displayed along sections of the 4.5-mile path traversing Hood River, and organizers are now accepting poems for 2027. The 2027 Poetry Walk will include 20 poems, on display April to September. There is no entry fee, and previously published poems are acceptable. Poems are chosen by a panel of judges in a blind jury process. Submit poems as individual PDFs attached to a brief email to gorgepoetrywalk@gmail.com. Each submission must include the poet’s name in the email but not on the poem document itself. Deadline for submissions is Nov. 1. Skyline Health Foundation — has awarded $14,000 in scholarships to students pursuing careers in nursing and healthcare. Mid-Columbia Economic Development District (MCEDD) — has $2 million in revolving loan funds available to develop “attainable” workforce housing in its Oregon counties.
