THE DALLES — A free warm lunch, along with information on free health services, is being offered to the public on Monday, Nov. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 415 E. Second St., the new(ish) office location of Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living (EOCIL).
The free meal includes pork roast and rice, and information will be available on a number of services, including referrals for low- or no-cost breast cancer screenings, information on where to get vaccines, harm reduction services for people who use drugs, and other health-related topics.
“This event is designed to bring community members together to share a warm meal, connect with local organizations, and learn about the valuable services available in our area, with the main purpose of bridging community members with resources,” said Lupita Castillo, a harm reduction specialist with EOCIL who works in The Dalles.
EOCIL serves 16 counties in Eastern Oregon, and has had an office in The Dalles for several years. It moved to its current location downtown more recently.
EOCIL also has offices in Ontario, La Grande, Pendleton, Redmond and Burns. It offers a variety of services, including advocacy, resource connections and support for a variety of populations.
Its work across Eastern Oregon includes food assistance, affordable housing resources, harm reduction education and resources, tobacco cessation support, sexual health navigation, breast cancer awareness and prevention care, support for people balancing work and disability benefits, and housing.
