Collegiate Softball:
Central Washington sophomore Mallory Holtman set a single-season home run record for the CWU program last Sunday with a two-run blast in the second game of double-header in Seattle.
Holtman's 11th homer of the season came in the top of third inning and broke Jill Powell's five-year-old team mark of 10.
The 2003 Columbia High graduate tied the record last Friday with a two-homer game in Ellensburg against St. Martin's.
Holtman's ninth and 10th round-trippers--both two-run shots--helped the Wildcats win the second game and earn a split of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference double-header.
For the season, Holtman is batting .365 (42/115) with seven doubles. She also leads the Wildcats (8-10, 18-21) in runs batted in (33), runs scored (30) and slugging percentage (.713). Her on-base percentage of .435 is second on the team.
More Collegiate Softball:
Lyle High alum Mitzi McMurrin had five hits in eight at-bats, and drove in two runs last Friday during a double-header between Yakima Valley College and Walla Walla Community College.
McMurrin, a sophomore at YVC, went 3 for 4 in the first game and 2 for 4 in the second with two RBIs. She also was YVC's pitcher of record in the first game, but came out on the short end of an 8-6 decision.
