The Skyline Foundation announces the award of a Wayne M. Henkle M.D. Scholarship to Guadalupe "Lupe" Rojas.
Rojas has been the Produce Manager at Thriftway in White Salmon since 1997.
While working full time, Rojas attended Columbia Gorge Community College in The Dalles, for the last two years completing the prerequisites needed to apply for a Radiography Technician program. He has been accepted to the program at Yakima Valley Community College in Yakima.
As a fluent bi-lingual Spanish-English speaking individual along with his desire to help people, Rojas feels that he can be a great asset to any hospital program.
His drive to work in the medical field was intensified when he was in a major automobile accident. Despite the severity of his injury, he over came all odds. "Through God's grace, determination, medical science, and physical therapy, not only can I walk again, I can do all of the things that I did before," Rojas told the foundation.
He enjoys playing golf, basketball, and spending time with family and friends.
As a former patient, he sympathizes and empathizes with patients themselves. He knows what it feels like to be in good hands. During his hospital confinement, the medical staff was caring, patient, and competent. Their professionalism inspired his desire and motivation to become part of a medical team.
Until now, getting his health back and on his feet has been the biggest challenge in his life. Rojas is now ready for the next challenge, going to college and getting his degree as a Radiography Technician.
Rojas said, "Determination and perseverance allowed me to walk again. Determination and perseverance will allow me to get through the radiography program and help me achieve my goal to become a Radiography Technician."
Wayne M. Henkle scholarships were established in memory of a much-admired, long-time White Salmon physician.
