On Father's Day

"We had better attendance than we've had in five years," said Chris Miller, secretary of the Glenwood Rodeo Association. "The weather was absolutely perfect."

All-around cowboy Chris McKoen of Terrebonne, Ore., received the H.L. "Tye" Murray Memorial Jacket, given to the cowboy who wins the most money (including in one rough stock event).

McKoen earned his first Murray jacket by winning the tie-down calf roping competition and partnering with Bryan Barker of Culver, Ore., for a fifth-place finish in team roping.

McKoen did his work during Saturday's performance of the two-day Northwest Professional Rodeo Association Prime Rodeo. His time of 11.8 seconds in calf roping held up through two sections of tie-down on Sunday.

Andrew Steffen of Salem, Ore., and Tim Yore of Winlock came close to topping McKoen's time--posting efforts of 13.5 and 14.7 seconds respectively--but had to settle for second and third in the final standings.

Nonetheless, Sunday's action produced leader-board changes in two events.

Glenwood native Trevor Scott, now a resident of Vancouver, and Camas' Johnhenri Dowd turned in times of 8.3 and 12.8 seconds respectively to finish first and second in steer wrestling.

In barrel racing, Redmond, Ore., rider Kelli Jensen's run of 18.28 seconds knocked Mary Hayes of Hermiston, Ore., and Amy McHale of Long Beach out of first place. Hayes and McHale made their barrel circuits in 18.32.

Other highlights Sunday included money-winning performances by Tony Lundervold, Gresham, Ore., in saddle bronc riding, Redmond cowboy Mark Barkley in the bareback event and Andy Crozier, Aumsville, Ore., in bull riding.

Lundervold rode Rollin' Rock to a score of 69 and second place, while Barkley held on for a 73, which was good for third place. Crozier earned his paycheck with a sixth-place ride on Lone Wolf.
