HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley (HRV) High School baseball team beat Lincoln High School, 4-3, in an OSAA non-league game on April 3 at Traner Field.
The Eagles (4-3), led by head Coach Max Reitz, stood tough against the Class 6A Cardinals (5-3) of the Portland Interscholastic League, using a late push and strong pitching to finish the job. HRV had seven hits and scored twice in the fifth inning to secure the win.
“I was really proud of our guys and the poise they showed in a game that had real momentum swings back and forth,” said Reitz. “Bodie Stuben did what seniors do and stepped up big time with a tough at bat to put us ahead, and then slammed the door on the mound in that challenging seventh inning.”
“It was a special home opener at Traner Field, and we really appreciate the great turnout from the community.”
HRV struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lincoln responded with a run in the first and added two more in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. HRV answered in the fifth with two runs to regain control at 4-3.
At the plate, Hood River Valley tallied seven hits, led by Tyson Harjo, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two doubles. Maverick Hockett added a double, while Stuben drove in a team-high two runs. Trevor Jacobs also contributed an RBI, and Davin Snyder chipped in a hit and scored a run.
On the mound, Landen Pratt got the start for HRV, allowing three runs (one earned) while striking out six over four innings. Stuben came on in relief and shut the door, tossing three scoreless innings with six strikeouts to earn the win.
This week, the Eagles have two home non-league games against 5A Mid-Willamette Conference member Corvallis High School (4-2) at 4 p.m. on April 7 and 5A Intermountain Conference opponent Summit High School of Bend at 5 p.m. on April 8.
