Arthur T. Pack, former owner of a ranch in the Cherry Hill district, has surrendered to Immigration Commissioner R. P. Bonham on charges of illegal entry into the United States, a Portland newspaper reported today. Captain Pack was an officer in the German merchant marine during the war and attempted to enter the United States from Mexico during the latter days of the conflict. The “pulling power” of Columbia river salmon was demonstrated this week when Rex. R. Campbell, Yakima sportsman and formerly a resident of The Dalles, was “dunked” in the fast water below Celilo falls by a big fish that gave his line such a yank that he was dislodged from the rocky ledge on which he was fishing.

The Dalles was host for an hour this morning to about 50 air-minded residents of Portland, Oregon City and other areas adjoining the Oregon metropolis, when the 20-plane “See Oregon by Air” caravan arrived at the local airport.

A group of Southeast Asia engineers spent several hours on the John Day Dam project Monday, viewing massive works that may even be exceeded in size by blocks of concrete and rock embankments to control and put to good use the waters of a river twice as big as the Columbia.

The U.S. Forest Service will soon post new signs in the Mt. Hood National Forest portion of the City of The Dalles watershed prohibiting entry.
