Hood River County Historical Museum, located in the Port Marina Park (off I-84 at exit 64) is sponsoring a native rug weaving exhibit.
This exhibit features part of a private collection of Southwestern Native Weavings owned by Mosier resident Vaughn Swanson.
Thirty different items will be on display varying in size and style.
Vaughn has been collecting native weavings since 1975. Vaughn commented, "I didn't set out to make a collection. I bought the first one because I liked it and we enjoyed it so much that we just started buying more."
The beauty of these handmade works of native art come alive with graphic designs and pictorial scenes.
Many of the rugs were purchased directly from the weavers, while some were antique store finds.
Hood River County Historical Museum is honored to share this collection with museum visitors throughout the month of August, until September 1.
