Sidewalk Sales will be the theme of the first downtown White Salmon "Just Jewett" on Friday, Sept. 15.
Most businesses along Jewett Blvd. in White Salmon will be putting out their wares from 5:30 to 8 p.m. to kick off the first of many diverse evenings.
Also on hand on this first night will be the Skyline EMS levy committee with pulled pork sandwiches.
Skyline Foundation is holding a Dr. Seuss speed reading contest at The Book Peddler.
The evening features an artists' opening at Roz Gallery and Blue Ackerman Photography, highlighting music and wine with local artist Penny Wallace demonstrating a live life casting.
New businesses Ground, Sticks and Stones, and Postal Connections will be open.
Every Friday night thereafter, businesses will offer different things "to do" along with their regular fare. One might enjoy poetry readings, origami, learning to knit or crochet, playing a game of Scrabble, watching glass blowing -- or making a glass tile or blowing an ornament, having supper or just visiting with friends. Neck and back massages will be available from time to time.
"These evenings," said organizer Pam Morneault, "are about making downtown White Salmon the community living room."
