Callista Shae Howell and Miguel Cuevas each picked up four top-10 individual finishes each and the hand obstacle relay team of Emma Treichel, Aimee Treichel, Sara Treichel and Howell posted a time of five minutes with a final score of 103 points to place second in the Central District’s Oregon High School Equestrian Team meet ending Sunday at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center in Redmond.
With those numbers, the Riverhawks placed third in the large team division with 296 points scored, 146 coming in team events.
Mackenzie Urness, Morgan Ramirez and Howell had a third-place outcome in team penning with a total time of 228.12 seconds with three pens and five cows. Of their three attempts, the trio scored a best of 57.976 with two cows in their second try.
In the two-man bi-rangle, Chloe Godwin and Cuevas scored third place in a time of 27.069, behind Bend (26.187) and Ridgeview (26.833).
In the two-man bi-rangle, the Riverhawk duo of Urness and Howell ended up in sixth place with a mark of 29.181.
The working pairs team of Emma Treichel and Howell notched 13th place with a score of 58 points in working pairs and both Urness and Ramirez added 16th place in working pairs with 55.5 points
The ‘A’ team of Sara Treichel and Sararose Campanella placed 19th with a working pairs score of 54.5.
The ‘C’ team penning group of Aimee Treichel, Sara Treichel and Campanella placed 14th in 99.375 with two pens and two cows and the Riverhawk quartet of Emma Treichel, Godwin, Jacob Richman and Hannah Simmons added 15th place honors in 116.31 with two pens and two cows in team penning.
The Dalles had several standout efforts individually, as Cuevas had a time of 9.544 seconds with one catch to score third place in breakaway roping, less than three seconds from the top time put up by Ridgeview’s Rileigh Baker (6.878).
He also placed third in barrel racing with a base time of 15.454, less than a second off the pace set by Mountain View’s Donna Sleveking (14.886)
Cuevas had another top-5 finish in pole bending with a time of 23.455 seconds for a fourth-place outcome and had a seventh-place mark in showmanship with a score of 87.
Howell picked up sixth place in trail equitation after her score of 54 points, added seventh-place recognition with her time of 15.803 seconds in barrels and in pole bending, placed ninth in 24.222.
She also scored 10th place in western horsemanship with 88 points.
Sararose Campanella placed sixth in hunt seat over fences with a score of 65.5 points.
She tacked on ninth place in keyhole where she had a time of 9.644 and placed 23rd with her reading of 12.933 in figure 8.
Emma Treichel scored 77 points for 17th place in showmanship and placed 18th in keyhole with a mark of 11.655.
Sara Treichel was good for 18th place in dressage after a score of 108 and Aimee Treichel wound up in 12th place for her attempts at in-hand trail with her marker of 32 points.
Ramirez fired off 24th place in keyhole with a final base of 12.769 and tacked on 28th place in figure 8 with a time of 13.679.
Godwin tallied a 27th place tie with 69 points in western horsemanship, Urness ended up 15th in figure 8 with a time of 12.369, placed 18th in the field of 63 with her time of 17.011 in barrels and tallied a 26.764 for 18th place in pole bending.
Dufur tandem stays on point
The two-person equestrian duo of Harley Burgener and Zach Christiansen combined for a handful of top-10 outcomes to lead Dufur to 60 points in the mini-team classification.
Christiansen had his best outcome of the weekend in individual flags with a base time of 10.141 for second place, just a few ticks behind Ridgeview’s Emily Geist (10.061).
He added 58 points for fourth place in the working rancher event and rallied for 13th place with a time of 1.819 seconds in steer daubing.
Christiansen also ended up in a tie for 27th place in western horsemanship with 69 points and placed 32nd in figure 8 in a solid 13.915.
Burgener went for 52 points to secure sixth place in working rancher and she was in 13th place at in-hunt seat equitation with 58 points.
Burgener was good for 17th place in western horsemanship after posting 79 points, she had a time of 4.581 in steer daubing for 17th place and she added 22nd place in showmanship with a final tally of 73.5.
When teaming up together, Burgener and Christiansen combined for one pen and one cow for a total time of 58.304 for 22nd place in team penning.
In two-man bi-rangle, Burgener and Christiansen had a mark of 32.93 for 22nd place.
Ruise, Fritts lead way for Sherman
Sherman competed in the small team division and posted 13 points, all of them coming in individual events.
Mikkaela Ruise added a score of 43 points to grab 10th place in hand trail, scored 35 points in trail equitation for 16th place in the standings and had 69 points for 28th place in showmanship
Ruise placed 32nd in western horsemanship with her 59 points.
Jared Fritts had a top outcome for 15th place with 39 points in trail equitation and he went for 26th place in western showmanship with 70 points.
The teams will be in action again on April 17-19 in Redmond.
