THE DALLES — The No. 8-ranked The Dalles High Riverhawks remained undefeated in OSAA Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference (TVC)volleyball as they captured their third straight TVC win, 3-0, over visiting Molalla on Oct. 2 at Kurtz Gym.
It was the Riverhawks’ seventh consecutive win over the Indians (1-3 league, 4-8 overall), overlapping the past four seasons — and each match was by a 3-0 score.
The Riverhawks (3-0 league, 9-4 overall), guided by third-year Coach Teresa Morris, competed in the Mt. Hood Invitational Tournament Oct. 4 at Barlow High School, which started with their first pool play game at 8 a.m. The Riverhawks split a two-set match versus Class 5A Crook County, followed by a 2-0 pool play victory over 6A Gresham to take first place in their tourney bracket.
“We did okay, and we took third place overall in the tournament,” said Morris. “We’re still working on consistency in our game, and we’re trying to build and make sure that all of our players continue to improve.
“Our goal is to just continue to improve and, hopefully, we’ll reach our goal of qualifying for the state tournament quarterfinals.”
The Riverhawks lost in the tourney championship bracket to 5A Ridgeview and won their final match 2-0 over 6A Ida B. Wells.
The Riverhawks are in first place in the six-team TVC standings, just ahead of second place Madras. The Riverhawks are seeking to win their second TVC title, which they last won in 2022.
“We’re hoping to win the league championship, but we have to get through the remainder of our eight-game TVC schedule,” said Morris. “Estacada (2-1 TVC, 10-1 overall) and Madras are both much improved teams. We’ll have to go on the road to play both of those teams. Those will not be easy games.”
