THE DALLES — The defending Tri-Valley Conference champion The Dalles High Riverhawks extended their boys soccer unbeaten streak to seven after two league wins last week.
The Riverhawks have qualified for the Class 4A state playoffs for a fifth consecutive year. The top two TVC squads — The Dalles and North Marion — earn automatic berths in the 16-team state playoffs that begin Nov. 3 with first round games.
The No. 6-ranked Riverhawks (11-2-1, 7-1-1 TVC) were seeking to extend their unbeaten streak to eight in their Oct. 27 regular season finale at No. 7-ranked North Marion High Huskies. The winner of the contest earns the TVC title, while the loser finishes second. The Huskies (7-2 TVC, 9-4 overall) beat the Riverhawks, 2-1, in overtime in the 2025 state quarterfinals; the Riverhawks won, 1-0, against the Huskies in an Oct. 7 game in Aurora.
The Dalles beat Molalla, 5-1, in an Oct. 20, road game; the Riverhawks built a 4-0 halftime lead. Senior forwards Ivan Santana (two goals, assist) and Orlando Vargas (goal, assist), junior midfielder Ronin DeMott (goal) and junior forward Ismael Cervantes (goal) helped lead the Riverhawks to the victory over the Indians. Junior midfielder Julian Rodriguez, who leads the Riverhawks in goals (12) and assists (12), added an assist.
The Riverhawks, guided by first-year Coach Shudi Datta, beat Estacada, 7-2, in a festive, Oct. 22 senior night contest. “We just tried to get as much playing time for the seniors during the game,” said Datta. “They [Rangers] scored a couple of goals early in the game that I wasn’t too happy to see. Other than that, I’m glad that everyone had fun. It was a great celebration for the seniors who were playing in the last regular season home game of their career.”
