Hawks Madness is Friday
The annual Hawks Madness basketball preview night is Friday, Nov. 22, at Horizon Christian School. The fundraising event begins at 7 p.m. and includes a cake auction (some 15 basketball-themed cakes), a 50/50 raffle and a basketball shooting contests for kids and “kids at heart.”
There will be short scrimmages by the Horizon boys and girls teams, and brief games involving fifth- and sixth-grade players from the Hood River area. The Horizon boys basketball team has finished second, first and fifth in the past three Class 1A state tournaments. For more information about Hawks Madness, contact the school at 541-387-3200.
HRV wrestling spagetti feed Nov. 23
Hood River Valley High School wrestling is hosting a community dinner and spaghetti feed Nov. 23 at the county fairground community building in Odell. The event is a fundraiser for all wrestling programs in Hood River and will be hosted by the upcoming lineup of HRVHS Eagle wrestlers. Auctioneer Ron Chamness will be on hand to run a live auction for big-ticket fundraiser items, while a silent auction and raffle will feature a variety of other items to help raise money.
Festivities will start at 5 p.m., with an hour designated for meet and greet, an hour for the homemade spaghetti dinner and an hour for the auction and raffle. Organizers hope the event will be both a fundraiser and a reunion of sorts, where past wrestlers and wrestling families can meet again, catch up and share stories of the “good old glory days.”

County seeks Trails Committee members
Three Forest Recreation Trails Committee member’s terms are due to expire on Jan. 1. Terms will expire for Jim Denton (Hiker/Runner), Rick Higgins (Motorcycle) and Patrick Monaghan (Citizen). Hood River County is now accepting applications from the public for these positions. Applications are due by Dec. 13; interviews and new appointments will be made in January.
The Trails Committee is comprised of 13 members appointed by the Board of Commissioners. Members represent the various users who utilize the trail system. Terms are for three years.

Stenberg helps Corban win soccer title
Horizon Christian School alumnus Andrew Stenberg had an assist over the weekend to help the Corban University Warriors soccer team to a 1-0 win over Concordia to claim the school’s first-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference title.
Stenberg, a 2011 Horizon graduate, is a junior at the college and is in his third year with the team, playing at the midfield and defense positions. At the 82-minute mark he connected with teammate Bobby Hutcin on a through ball to score the only goal of the CCC championship game. The win advances the Warriors to the NAIA tournament, which is a first for the school. They’ll play No. 8-ranked Concordia-Irvine Saturday in southern California in the opening round of the national tournament.
Stenberg appeared in 17 games this season and started in 11. He played soccer, basketball and golf as a Hawk, earning First Team All-Conference soccer honors his senior year. He is currently studying business management.
