Hood River Special Olympians compete in golf competition

HOOD RIVER — Athletes from the Hood River Special Olympics golf program proudly represented the community at the Special Olympics Golf Competition in June, showcasing their hard work, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Three Hood River athletes competed in the Skills Competition, which consisted of six events: long drive, iron shot, chipping, pitching, short putt, and long putt.

Melody Nilson earned a Silver Medal, placing second out of six competitors in her division; Jeremiah Urban also earned a Silver Medal, placing second out of six competitors in his division; and Connor Smith, competing as a second-year golfer, delivered an outstanding performance and captured the Gold Medal in his division.

The Hood River program was also represented in the Unified Golf Competition by Ed Cook and his unified partner, Noah. The duo played nine holes of golf and finished with a combined score of 62, earning third place in their division.

The Hood River Special Olympics program is proud of these athletes and their accomplishments. Their success reflects the dedication they bring to practice, their commitment to improving their golf skills, and the support of their families, coaches, volunteers, and community.
