The nine-member The Dalles High Riverhawks boys and girls ski team had a strong performance in the second Mt. Hood Ski Race League event Jan. 28 at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl, as they posted four top-10 finishes.
Cooper Klindt led the boys squad with a fifth-place finish with his two-run time of 1:27.51 on the steep downhill course. Henry Perez took eighth place at 1:35.41, and Connor Kovalchuck finished 26th in 2:34.24.
The Riverhawks, guided by eight-year Coach Dane Klindt, had a similar strong performance by their girls squad with top-10 finishes by the freshmen duo of Kaiya Doty and Kailee Klindt. Doty placed a career best eighth with her two-run time of 1:35.98, and Klindt was right behind her in ninth place with her career best finish of 1:36.06.
“Having two freshmen in the top-10 of the girls race and finishing so well is very promising for the future of our team,” said Coach Klindt.
Riverhawk girls skiers Faith Gouge, Abril Rincon and Riley Nordquist also competed in the race. Gouge took 32nd place with her two-run time of 2:48.53.
The Riverhawks will compete in the third race of the season Feb. 4 in a Giant Slalom Middle Fork event at Mt. Hood Meadows.
