THE DALLES — The Tri-Valley League slate of eight games begins on Jan. 23 for The Dalles High girls basketball team, and that might prove to be a respite for the Riverhawks after a tough schedule of non-league contests.
The Dalles is 5-8, having lost five of its past six games, including the latest Jan. 12 at Class 5A Mountain View of Bend. The Tri-Valley should prove more favorable to the Riverhawks, as no team has asserted itself as a favorite thus far in non-league contests. All five Tri-Valley teams were either at or below .500 as of Jan. 18.
The Dalles had losses in its first three contests, all to 5A opponents. A four-game win streak was halted by two more losses to 5A schools. Long road trip losses at Tillamook and Seaside (ranked No. 2 in 4A) came before the 60-42 loss to Mt. View (the second time the teams have played this season).
Coach Ronni Blodgett’s team opens conference play Friday at Madras (7-7), before a three-game home stand the following week.
