The Eagles boys wrestling team finished its regular season this past weekend at the Regionals Championships in Redmond.
“We wrapped up the final meet before state in a great way,” said head coach Trent Kroll.
Nine boys earned a podium spot in Redmond, including two champions.
Jason Shaner and Ryan Zeller were the two Eagles to go on and win their weight class bracket at Regionals.
Shaner, who ended his regular season with a 48-0 record at 132 pounds, won by tech fall in all four of his matches in Redmond, including his championship victory over Redmond’s Jacob Curry.
On top of the first-place finish for Shaner, he also earned the Outstanding Wrestler Award at Regionals.
At 120 pounds, Zeller finished his regular season with a 37-11 record after a 4-0 decision victory in the championship match at Regionals over Carsen Johnson from Mountain View.
Other place-winners at the Regionals Championships: Chad Muenzer, Adrian Ramirez, Cade Parker, Justin Lane, Sam Munce, Beto Rojas and Cody Durham.
Muenzer (36-12) took third place at 126 pounds with a 9-5 decision victory over Bend’s James Anderson and Ramirez (35-7) at 285 pounds also took third after a 5-3 decision over Jonah Yunker from Summit.
Parker (33-14) and Lane (25-16) both earned fifth place finishes at Regionals and Munce (8-12), Rojas (19-15) and Durham (6-8) finished with sixth place finishes in their respective weight classes.
Of the nine boys who earned a podium finish this past weekend, six would qualify for the State Tournament in Portland this upcoming weekend at the Portland Memorial Coliseum: Shaner, Zeller, Muenzer, Ramirez, Parker and Lane.
The weekend before last, the HRV girls wrestling team qualified Elena Kroll, Grace Miller and Christine Marquez to State.
In total, the Eagles will be sending nine wrestlers to the State Tournament on Friday, Feb. 16 and Saturday, Feb. 17.
"Our team has a lot of character and integrity,” said Kroll. “We set high goals and then learned what it takes to achieve those goals. I am proud of the effort of everyone on the team. We can't wait for State!"
