WHITE SALMON — As thick smoke hung outside its chambers on Aug. 5, several city councilors addressed the ongoing impact of this summer’s wildfires and emphasized potential actions, but they first approved several notable consent agenda items.

Following a severe storm on May 28, White Salmon saw roadway failure, flooding and damage to the city’s water infrastructure at multiple locations, particularly on NE Skagit Avenue and NE Scenic Road. While $1 million in emergency funding has been secured, Jennifer Neil, director of finance and operations, is pursuing grants to cover the full $1,998,500 estimated price tag that council signed off on.
