HRV softball starts 2026 season 0-6

HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s young softball team lost four games this past week at the North Medford Spring Break Tournament.

The losses dropped Coach Madelynn Vallejo’s team to 0-6 to start the 2026 season. The Eagles, with one senior and five freshmen on their varsity roster, were outscored 51-4 at the tourney.

The silver lining for the four-games-in-two-days road trip was the level of competition. HRV’s losses were to Class 5A schools Dallas (No. 7 ranked), Crater (No. 8) and Eagle Point (No. 14), and the sixth-ranked 6A team, Grants Pass (5-1).

That schedule — and early-season losses to unbeaten 6A Sandy and defending 4A state champion Pendleton — left Hood River ranked a respectable 18th out of 31 OSAA Class 5A schools.

Things don’t get any easier for the Eagles, who are scheduled to play a doubleheader April 3 at ninth-ranked and unbeaten Mountain View of Bend.
