HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley High School (HRVHS) baseball team went 2-1 in a three-game Northwest Oregon Conference stretch, with a 6-3 home win against Milwaukie High School on April 28, a 13-3 win against Milwaukie on the road on April 29, and a 5-2 home loss against La Salle Prep May 1.
The loss to La Salle snapped the Eagles’ win streak at 10 games. La Salle, Canby and Wilsonville, the three teams joining HRV in the upper half of the NWOC, are on the schedule over the next two weeks.
In game one against Milwaukie, the Eagles (13-4, 6-1 NWOC), led by head Coach Maz Reitz, held the Mustangs (6-10, 1-6 NWOC) scoreless until the sixth inning, and limited them to four hits on the night.
“I felt like we were a little slow coming out of the week off,” said Reitz. “We definitely didn’t take full advantage of the opportunities they [Milwaukie] gave us defensively. Davin Snyder made an incredible catch in left field that really helped. He’s such an athletic and gifted athlete. Combined with Hockett and Tuttle, we believe we have the best defensive outfield in the state. And Tyson Harjo was once again great on the mound in relief, pounding the zone with strikes.”
In game two against the Mustangs, HRV saw a 6-0 offensive explosion in the first inning, which helped set the tone for the rest of the game.
“We played much better offensively in game two,” said Reitz. “Kingston [McAdam]had a great series, going 5-6 in the two games, and he is really heating up. [Bodie] Stuben was solid on the mound but had to work extra hard because of some defensive mistakes that we need to clean up. Overall, it was a solid effort on the road.”
To finish the week of play, the Eagles fell 5-2 to the La Salle Prep Falcons at home, the program’s first NWOC loss of the season thus far.
This week, HRV has three more NWOC games, on the road against La Salle Prep at 5 p.m. on May 5, on the road against Canby at 5 p.m. on May 6 and at home against Canby at 5 p.m.
