The Horizon Christian School boys and girls track teams did well with their small rosters at the Condon/Wheeler Invitational last weekend, with the boys finishing 12th of 17 teams and the girls finishing ninth of 18 teams in a meet that included primarily small schools from both sides of the Columbia Gorge and beyond.
On the girls side, Paulina Finn broke her own school record of 5 feet, 0 inches in the high jump with her new attempt of 5-2, which was good for first place in the event.
Other scorers for the Horizon girls team included Kloe Brown who placed eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 59.06 seconds; Amy Requa, who ran the 1500 in 6:20.13, which was good for seventh place, and Savanna Hawk, who took fourth in pole vault with an attempt of 7-0. The 4x100 team of Miranda Roberts, Hawk, Brown, and Finn placed fourth with a time of 57.75 and the 4x400 team of Hawk, Brown, Finn, and Brittney Renner also placed fourth, completing the event in 4:48 flat.
For the boys, distance runner Jony Nelson had the lone first-place finish, leading the pack in the 1500 with a time of 4:27.75. He also finished eighth in the 800 (2:16.46). Luke Holste had a good day in the 110 hurdles, placing third with a time of 17.96 and finished sixth in the 100 with a time of 11.67.
Also scoring for Horizon were Salvador Ramirez in the 800 (6th, 55.72); Quinn Roetcisoender in the 300 hurdles (5th, 47.12), pole vault (6th, 10-6), and triple jump (8th, 35-10); Sam Schneider in shot put (37-11.5), Wolfgang Marsalis in discus (7th, 90-7), and Kameron Brown in high jump (6th, 5-2). The boys 4x400 team of Andrew Rinella, Nelson, Ramirez, and Brown also scored for the team, placing eighth with a time of 4:01.37.
Horizon finishes up its regular season with an invitational in Arlington this Saturday and then will prepare for the Special District 3 championship meet that will be held the following Saturday (May 14) at Sherman County Junior/Senior High School in Moro.
