WHITE SALMON — Columbia High School swept nearby Stevenson on Oct. 28 to finish its Trico League volleyball season with a 7-7 record and qualify for the 2025 WIAA District 4 playoffs.
The Bruins (8-7) overall will play Montesano (10-6) in the first round on Nov. 5 in Rochester. Columbia won four of its final five league games to play its way into the postseason.
Columbia, 22nd in the latest WIAA rankings, finished in a tie with Castle Rock for fourth place in the Trico League. Montesano, ranked 21st, won the Evergreen League with an 8-0 record.
In the win over Stevenson, Columbia took advantage of Bulldog mistakes to take control of the first set and, subsequently, the match. The Bruins were able to overcome their mistake behind the net play of Sara Miller and Fiona Grabb. Miller had three spikes for points during a five-point run, and Grabb had two kills and an ace as Columbia expanded a 12-6 lead into an surmountable 16-7 advantage.
A Stevenson hitting error set up match point and Joella Polini delivered a kill shot for the Bruins on the next point.
