WHITE SALMON — Columbia High School (CHS), the Bruin Club and the CHS Associated Student Body (ASB) raised $2,050 for the Skyline Health Foundation’s Breast Health Fund during Pink Week.
Organized by the Bruin Club, CHS Athletics & ASB, the Skyline Health Foundation, Soroptimist International of Mt. Adams and One Community Health, Pink Week combined high school sports, community engagement, and breast cancer awareness across a week of events from Oct. 23–31.
“Pink Week holds a special place for me,” said AJ Valencia, the athletic director for Columbia High School. “This fundraiser is a powerful reminder of what athletics is truly about: bringing people together for a purpose bigger than wins and losses. Seeing our student-athletes, coaches, families, and community members unite around a cause as important as supporting breast cancer awareness is incredibly meaningful. Knowing the funds we raised will directly help under-insured and uninsured members of our community makes every effort worth it. Pink Week is a celebration of strength, hope, and community, and being part of this as an athletic director is something I’m truly proud of.”
The Skyline Health Foundation’s Breast Health Fund provides mammograms, diagnostic imaging, and access to the latest breast health technology for individuals who might not otherwise be able to afford care. Since its inception, the program has supported nearly 100 patients in receiving essential screenings.
Soroptimist International of Mt. Adams, a returning partner, raised $250 by hosting concessions during the girls soccer pink game, bringing the total to $2,300 in local breast health support. One Community Health also joined the initiative this year.
“For the community, this fundraiser meant connection, compassion, and collective impact,” Valencia said. “Pink Week gave the White Salmon Valley a chance to rally together around a cause that touches so many families.”
He continued, “It wasn’t just about wearing pink — it was about showing solidarity, honoring those who have battled breast cancer, and supporting neighbors who may be facing it now. It highlighted the strength of the Bruin community and reminded us that when we come together, we can make a real difference.”
