Hood River Valley volleyball got a taste of sweet revenge this week as they rallied to a 3-1 win at home Wednesday against The Dalles-Wahtonka. The Eagles, now 5-4 in league play, lost a disappointing 3-2 match on the road in their last meeting against the Columbia River Conference rivals.
After a narrow loss in the first game (26-24), the girls rallied to win the next two despite a stubborn Eagle Indian offense. The fourth set was all Hood River and was 22-9 before coach Scott Walker made some substitutions to give players time on the court.
“All of the games were really close except the fourth,” Walker said. “The most impressive thing to me from the match was the 15 team blocks that we had. It is the best we have blocked all year. We also passed the ball really well; we had 26 perfect passes to only five errors.”
Kaili Duffy led the team with five blocks while Meighan Frazier had eight of the team’s 26 perfect passes and six digs. Leading the team defensively with seven digs was Amanda McCafferty, who also led in serving with two aces, 27 total serves and 32 assists in the team’s 38 kills. Mattson is credited with 11 of those kills, followed by Duffy with 10, Frazier with eight, Tabitha Merten with six, Christina Henage with two and Sydney McHale with one.
The team goes on the road in the next league match to face Pendleton on Oct. 16.
