WHITE SALMON — The defending WIAA Class 1A Trico League Champion Columbia High Bruin boys soccer team (5-1 Trico, 5-1-1 overall) extended its win streak to three following a 1-0 home win March 27 over the Seton Catholic High Cougars (3-2-2).
Senior team captain Matt Miller scored the game-winning goal to help lead the Bruins to the victory over the Cougars. Miller and senior Juan Santoyo are the two team captains. In another close game on March 25, Isaac Reynoso scored the game-winning goal to help lead the Bruins to a 1-0 home win over the Fort Vancouver High Trappers (6-1).
The Bruins, guided by third-year Coach Gio Magana, then enjoyed spring break last week and 11 days off until their next contest. The Bruins will play their next game — a Gorge rivalry match-up — at 6 p.m. April 8 versus the Stevenson High Bulldogs (0-7) at home. The Bruins won an earlier match-up, 1-0, over the Bulldogs on March 17 at Stevenson High School.
“I feel confident that we’ll win our next game on Wednesday and expect our team to win the Trico League title again this year,” said Magana, who guided the Bruins to the 2025 District 4 championship and a fourth-place finish in the WIAA state tournament. “We have many kids on the team this year who are capable of scoring lots of goals.”
The Bruins have scored 24 goals through their first seven games. Led by a solid defensive effort (five shutouts) and the outstanding play of goalkeeper Ricardo Cortez, they’ve only allowed two goals scored by opponents.
Following Wednesday’s game, the Bruins will resume their schedule with a 6 p.m. home game April 13 versus the King’s Way Christian High Knights (4-1-2 Trico, 5-1-2 overall).
