The Dalles High Riverhawks boys and girls swimmers combined for nine top-five individual finishes and two event wins in the La Grande Invitational swim meet Jan. 14 in La Grande.
Former Hood River Valley High School track and field standout Jestena Mattson was selected to represent the 2022-2023 USA Bobsled National Team at the upcoming World Cup competitions. Mattson ran for the Division 1 Fresno State Bulldogs, where she earned multiple Mountain West conference championships in the heptathlon and pentathlon competitions. Her senior year she was also named to the All-American second team for her performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

In round two of the Class 5A boys basketball Gorge rivalry between The Dalles High Riverhawks and the Hood River Valley High Eagles, it was another thrilling matchup like the previous meeting a week earlier (a 65-62 Riverhawk win). This time it was the Eagles who came out on top, 82-76, over the Hawks, Feb. 11, at Hood River Valley High School.
In what was undoubtedly the most exciting game of the season and with one of the largest crowds in many years at Kurtz Gym, The Dalles High Riverhawks didn’t disappoint their hometown fans in a 65-62 boys basketball win over Gorge rival Hood River Valley last week.
