Hood River Valley’s boys basketball team was slated to continue its gauntlet through the upper echelon of the Class 5A ranks this week with Parkrose coming to town on Tuesday.
The No. 6-ranked South Wasco County High Redside girls faced their toughest opponent this season on Dec. 19, losing to the top-ranked North Douglas High Warriors (5-2), 62-9 in Drain.
Hood River Valley opened its league season in boys basketball with a 72-59 road win at Canby High on Dec. 14.
It was the Eagles’ second win in a row, having topped visiting Estacada, 66-47, two days earlier at Vannet Court. That victory was the first this season for Coach Christopher Dirks’ team, after an 0-4 start.
Playing their first game in two weeks, The Dalles High Riverhawks (1-1) notched their first win with a 56-41 victory over the Columbia High Bruins (1-3) in a non league girls basketball game Dec. 16 at The Dalles High School’s Kurtz Gym.
Two of the better girls basketball teams last season went head-to-head to open the 2022-23 season last week, when host Columbia Bruins topped the Trout Lake Mustangs, 41-35.
Host Summit of Bend proved itself worthy of its top ranking Friday, when the Storm toppled visiting Hood River Valley, 42-6, in the first round of the Class 5A state football playoffs.
