The big corporations insist that GMOs are safe and healthy, but at the same time are spending millions of dollars to avoid mandatory labeling of all foods containing GMOs. Why are they so against labeling food as genetically modified if it is really safe?
There are also many people that don't care, they eat what tastes good and is inexpensive. These people won't care if food is labeled as GMO as long as they like it and it doesn't cost more than their budgets allow.
There are also many people are happy to spend more to buy what they think is healthier foods such as organically grown.
In the European Union very few GMO products are legally grown (only corn), it is suggestive, but uncertain if this is the reason why obesity rates in Europe are so much lower than in America.
Monsanto is spending $1.5 million to defeat mandatory labeling of GMO in Oregon! This is the company that for decades promoted DDT as safe. Monsanto was also one of the major suppliers of Agent Orange that poisoned millions of Vietnam Veterans. They also produced PCBs for electronics for decades even while knowing they cause certain cancers.
The corporations continually repeating that GMOs are safe sounds very much like the statements made by the tobacco corporations not too many years ago, and we all know how honest they were.
